About Us
The Bay of Bengal celebrates its 21th successful year in October of
this year. This award winning Indian restaurant was the first of its
type in Glenelg and still attracts a loyal following of both local
residents, as well as devotees who travel from further afield.
Owner Del Lacota first enjoyed Indian food when introduced to it by his Anglo Indian wife Patrine. Heard of people who buy a business because they like the product? Well, Del could think of no better way to indulge his pleasure in Indian cuisine than to open an Indian restaurant.
The Bay of Bengal menu includes a range of authentic dishes prepared by chef Pankaj, who was trained in Delhi. This is complemented by quality wines at reasonable prices, both local and from New Zealand. There’s plenty of free parking and a delightful ambiance which features pieces purchased by Del on his visits to India. And almost as important: an abundance of soft furnishing which absorb sound and allow comfortable conversation. Diners who have struggled to be heard in a trendy but noisy cafe will instantly understand the attraction this holds!
And for those who think curry can only be enjoyed in winter, think for a moment of the disbelief that idea would prompt in the Indian multitudes, and remember too that the Bay of Bengal is fully air-conditioned. Diners can also sit outside to take advantage of the many sea-breezes that cool the restaurant and its surroundings.
Situated on the corner of Partridge Street and The Broadway, the Bay of Bengal can be easily reached on foot from the commercial hub of Glenelg, and also from the seafront.
Del is currently offering the following two specials:
Early diner special
Diners can take advantage of a $20 evening set menu if they vacate their table before 7.30 pm. Included is a glass of quality house wine. What better way to finish a day at the beach, to relax after work, or to grab a quick but delicious meal on the way to a movie or performance?
The early diner offer cannot be combined with other promotional offers.
